The allure of  astrology and predictions has always been hard to resist. I am sure at least 80% of us have at one point or other got our horoscope read. Or at least contemplated doing so.

Man’s desire to find out what lies in the future is evident since ages.  The different forms of the study of predicting the future are proof to this.   Namely Palmreading or Chiromany,  prediction based on the position of planets, facereading, numerology etc.  This desire is still strongly seen despite technological and lifestyle advances  and is likely to remain so for ages.

In this article, we are going to focus on the predictions based on planetary positions, their movements and the impact they have on life.  Jyotishshastra, as it is called in India, is a part of the Vedas.  Indians have been making predictions on the basis of this study for centuries.

The traditional predictions (Falajyotish) gives response in if’s and but’s.  It provides information about a certain incident in life, but the exact time is hard to predict.  This led to further research in this field to be able to make accurate predictions.  The foremost in this research was K.S. Krishnamurthy from Chennai or Madras as it was called in old days.

The Krishnamurthy method is based on math and calculations.  He defined certain rules and guidelines for these calculations. This allows for providing exact answers to the questions one poses.  Earlier the perfection of a predictions was dependent on the knowledge and skill of the Astrologer.  Adoption of Krishnamurthy method made sure that all astrologers who follow this make fairly accurate and similar predictions.

It was possible to draw the sub and sub-sub nakshatra swamy (lord) from the degrees of the planets position.  Direct moon position was used to derive the maha-dasha, antar-dasha, vidasha, sukshma-dasha and pran-dasha which made time calculations precise.  That may be the reason why this is called as the wand of Yakshini(magic wand).

Problem Statement : What should a person do?  Be an entrepreneur or join a firm for a salaried job?

Let us look at one example in the traditional method

The traditional method was to check the 10th position. If Jupiter is elevated in the 10th position and the current mahadasha is of Jupiter then it was predicted that both are ok.  Both the options would give profits and promotions.  If there are other auspicious planets around then there would be fame as well.

Let us use Krishnamurthy method for the same problem statement Elevated Jupiter in the 10th position will not ascertain positive results.

There is a need to check the position of Jupiter in the star or asterism (nakshatras), sub-asterism( upa-nakshatra).   It is important to check the aspect of the asterism lord and the house which the star/asterism rules. The timelines are dependent on the maha-dasha, antar-dasha, vidasha, sukshma-dasha and pran-dasha.

Let us now study the effects of Jupiter.

If Star lord Saturn is in 4th or 5th house there is a promotion. However if Saturn influences the 4th house, there will be problems in job and possibility of loss of job.

In turn if Jupiter is in the star Punarvasu, there will be excellent results which may lead to travel and even a short term project.

Krishnamurthy method is thus becoming popular due to the accuracy of the results.

Something about me…..

I have been studying astrology since 8 years of age and predicting since 14 years of age. My initial study started under the guidance of my father Vasudeo Hari Dongarkar who in turn learned it from his cousin Govindrao Shiralkar. He was a sanyasi and the Rajpurohit and astrologer at the Darbar of Srimant Chaptrapati Shahu Maharaj.  I was blessed to be able to gain this knowledge and take it further.  I am  also grateful for guidance from my maternal uncle Mr Shashikant  Gadre and Mr Uday Bapat for Kurla in my later life.

Being a teacher for 30 years gave me an opportunity to work with children, brought me touch with social causes.  The contributions (non-monetary & monetary) to social causes gave me immense satisfaction and convinced me to continue contributing to the society even after retirement .  Selection of astrology was just a matter of time given my background in astrology.
